Q:
If I join, will you sell my email address to anyone?
A:
NO. Safeguarding your privacy is extremely important to us. We will not use your personal information for purposes outside those that are necessary for your participation in this website without your explicit consent. You may opt out of optional notifications at any time by modifying your user profile. * We will also not sell or rent your personal information to third parties for their marketing purposes without your explicit consent. * However, you understand and agree that the Law Resource Exchange ("LRX") may access, preserve, and disclose your personal information and the contents of your account if required to do so by law or in a good faith belief that such access preservation or disclosure is reasonably necessary to comply with legal process or protect the rights and property of LRX, its affiliates, or the public.
Q:
How do I register?
A:
Just click on the Join link on the top right of the website. Registration is free, and only takes a minute. You'll be asked what type of user you are (i.e. law student, undergraduate student, professor, etc.), then asked to enter your name, e-mail address, and some other basic information. Registering a user account unlocks many of the features of the site unavailable to persons without a login, such as features within the LRX Community, the ability to sell Outlines, and many other features.
Q:
How is the LRX Community different from other social networking sites?
A:
The LRX Community is the only major social networking arena that was specifically designed with a laser beam focus toward the unique needs of law students... not college students, or lawyers generally... law students. The site has been designed from the ground up by current and former law students with the unique needs of that community in mind at every step. The LRX Community has tools within it that cannot be found on any social networking site, tools specifically designed to make law school a little bit easier for the average law student. Conversely, there are features and groups common to many other social networking sites, but that have little relevance to the average law student, that have intentionally been left out of the LRX Community. The LRX Community ultimately exists, as does every other component of the LRX site generally, to help make law school a more enjoyable and productive experience.
Q:
How is the LRX document exchange different from other document exchange sites?
A:
Unlike other sites, LRX gives you the option to retain control of your intellectual property if you wish. Selling a document on the LRX only grants users a single-user license, and you can take down your document at any time. We simply provide a liquid marketplace for users to buy and sell their documents while providing a user review and document ratings infrastructure around that marketplace. Posting your documents is free. We only take a small transaction fee of 10% each time your document is purchased.

Q:
LRX Community Points
A:
LRX Community Points are an integral part of the overall value LRX hopes to offer users. The implementation of an increasingly sophisticated means of both acquiring and using LRX Community Points will evolve over the next few years. In short, think of LRX Community Points as the primary currency of the Law Resource Exchange. LRX Community Points will be acquired in a number of ways. For example: 1. Reporting a bug on the website. 2. Creating a blog or podcast, or posting a comment to a blog. 3. Getting another user to create a profile on the site. 4. Uploading a case brief. 5. Uploading an outline by “swapping” the rights to that outline for Community Points. 6. Answering a question on the Asked & Answered Database. Periodically, we may have promotions and contests where you can earn LRX Community Points and LRX Community Points can always be purchased for a price of $10 per block of 100 Community Points. Community Points can be used to purchase LRX-Owned Outlines and other items as the site continues to evolve in the future. Periodically, we may have promotions and contests where you can redeem your LRX Community Points for prizes.
Q:
Copyright Infringement Policy
A:
Copyright policy We are committed to upholding the rights of copyright owners. Please do not upload any material which would infringe upon an existing rights owner. What kinds of documents can be uploaded? Generally, you can upload the following types of documents 1) Any documents that you’ve created, 2) Any protected document where you have explicit permission from the rights holder, and 3) Any document which is unprotected. This includes documents where the copyright has expired or the document is in the public domain (e.g., typed or scanned versions of public filings). What do I do if I find a document that infringes on my copyright? If you see a document that infringes on your rights as a copyright holder, please contact us using the website and we will be in touch with you. Once we receive adequate proof that you are the rights owner of this document, we will temporarily suspend the document and notify the offending party to get in touch with you to resolve the matter. The document will not be allowed back online until you have resolved your claim with the offending party. Please see our user agreement for more details on our copyright policies. What if someone claims that I have infringed on his or her copyright? We will take your document temporarily offline, notify you of the claim and give you the contact information of the claimant. It is your duty to resolve the matter with the claimant. To resolve the matter, you can either 1) delete the document from the system or 2) contact the claimant to resolve the matter. Please do not bring the document back online until the matter has been settled. Please note that we are unable to mediate this process. Absent extraordinary circumstances, a document will remain offline until the party claiming infringement has released his claim. Please resolve all matters offline. Repeated copyright violations will result in termination of a users account. Please see our user agreement for more details on our copyright policies.
Q:
Buying Documents
A:
Searching for documents By entering a keyword in the search box in the "Search Outlines" or "Search Case Briefs" sections of the LRX Site, you can search for that keyword in the any of the description fields of all documents. If you prefer, you can also browse all outlines and case briefs available on the LRX website, sorted by any number of categories such as: date posted, title, course, professor, law school, price, et. al. Previewing a document The system allows document posters to provide potential buyers with a preview document. This will generally be a selection of pages from the document, such as the table of contents and/or key pages. If a preview document is available, the search result will indicate that and you preview the document natively within the website. Buying documents Once you find a document you would like to buy, simply click “Add to cart.” The item will be added to your Shopping Cart (located in the upper-right corner of the website). You can then continue to shop for documents. Once you are done adding documents to your cart, you can click on your Shopping Cart (located in the upper-right corner of the website) to check out. The funds for the documents you’ve purchased will immediately be disbursed to the document posters’ accounts and the documents will become available for you to download. Going forward, you will be able to see all documents that you have purchased in the “My Purchases” section of the Documents Widget in your individual personal profile.
Q:
What is a case brief?
A:
A case brief (Latin "brevis", short), as the term is used in law school, is a short (usually one page) summary of the key facts and analysis of a case. The case brief, coupled with the big-picture course outline, tends to be the primary way that most law students take notes for the following reasons: 1. Class Preparation & Legal Training: The process of creating a case brief is helpful in developing an essential legal skill…. The ability to read and analyze a court opinion, and extract from it the key facts and legal principal(s) that case establishes. In fact, many law professors justify teaching from casebooks via the Socratic Method, in part, as a means to solidify this critical thinking skill in law students. 2. Class Participation: Having a one-page summary of a case is also a very helpful memory-jogging tool to allow students to participate in class discussions about cases more effectively. 3. Exam Preparation: Similarly, a quick review of case briefs can be an efficient means of jogging one’s memory about the various cases he/she studied throughout a semester when preparing for the dreaded law school final exam (or the bar exam). The case brief template found at Law Resource Exchange is designed to help new law students fine-tune their case briefing skills by providing a concise and organized format that has worked well for many past law students. Additionally, LRX attempts to maintain the largest collection of free case briefs on the internet to help law students refine their case briefing ability and improve the quality of their briefs by collaborating with other law students in the process.
